Dermal Fillers: Everything You Need to Know
The dreaded F word! F-I-L-L-E-R ! It’s often the first word that comes to mind when we think of famous people. And it’s also the butt of many jokes! We’ve heard it so many times, “I will NEVER get filler because I don’t want to look fake”! Unfortunately filler gets a bad rap because of celebrities that go overboard. When it comes to filler, Dr. V has a rule of less is more. The goal is not to look 18 but to enhance your features and have you look like the beautiful person that you already are. Unfortunately as we age, we lose volume in our face; it’s a natural occurrence. Luckily we can replace some of that lost volume with filler.
What is filler?
Filler is a Hyaluronic Acid that occurs naturally in the body and helps facilitate the skin’s ability to stay hydrated. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid the body produces decreases. When filler is used correctly, it can reduce fine lines and wrinkles, restore lost volume, and refine your natural facial features.
There are a number of fillers currently on the market. Dr. Venter’s favourite is Revanesse, for a number of reasons:
- Made in Canada
- Small batch production
- Rigorous quality control
- Rounded molecules for less swelling – similar fillers have jagged edge molecules and cause way more swelling and essentially damage to the tissue.
- Revanesse comes in a variety of different viscosities to treat different areas.
- 2 ml per syringe instead of 1ml per syringe like other filler companies. This means more bang for your buck!
What are the different areas that can be treated?
Other than Neuromodulaters like Botox, Dysport, Nuceiva, that take 10-14 days to work, the effects of filler are immediate. There is some swelling, of course, but you will see a difference immediately after treatment. The product will be smooth and settled into the tissue after two weeks.
Filler treatments are not permanent. If for whatever reason you are not happy with the look after the treatment, it can be dissolved. The product also dissolves on its own over time depending on what area is treated. On average, we see products lasting in different areas anywhere between 6 and 12 months, however we have also had clients that are still happy with the results 2 years after treatment.
To be a qualified injector you need extensive and ongoing training. Not just a weekend course. Please make sure that your injector knows the risks, is prepared for any complications and is trained in the different areas that are injected. Dr.Venter takes great pride in providing a more natural approach and is dedicated to ongoing learning, because let’s face it, you can never know enough!
Our youth might be gone but why not look refreshed, well rested and the best version of you? After all, the goal is to still look like yourself. Nothing “Hollywood” or over done – that’s not the goal.
Until we blog again,
